We know ordering a cake sometimes it’s not that easy.. Different personalities have different approaches.
We have the Decisive type who have THE VISION in their head and needs someone to execute the vision down to the last detail.
There is the Vibe master who has a curated inspiration board with 1000 references and needs us to transform the aesthetic and mood into an edible reality.
The Clueless JUST NEEDS CAKE. They are not sure what they want and they need someone to make all the decisions.
The most patient is always the Messenger, who comes in on the phone and needs to report back to spouse, partner, or 4-10 friends and get everyone on the same page before the final decision,
For every cake-seeker, making an order can be a lot, trust issue with the baker, diplomatic disaster, indecision, and then this panic triggering question arrives “WHAT SIZE”?
A great survival strategy is BE PREPARED, and this guide will help you calm your nervous system so that when the question arrives you will be ready.
First thing first.. Think about how many people are coming for cake? Is this a “just cake” situation or the main event? Is it a big party or the cake is one little gift?
Here’s a quick overview based on typical cake portions:
Bento cake (4 slices) → the viral mini cake is perfect for 2–4 people: usually people get this for an anniversary, an intimate birthday, a gift for mother or father’s day, something to get to a friend to cheer them op or to celebrate a milestone.
Small cake → It’s made of two layers and its perfect for around 6–8 people. It’s small but it actually has a 16cm diameter so it still looks very much like a proper cake.
Medium cake → around 10–12 people, with a 22cm diameter, will look great, and won’t leave anyone wanting more.
Large cake → 12-18 people. The large cake has 3 layers so you needs smaller slices, looks big and beautiful and has a 26cm diameter.
Extra large → 30+ people. Perfect for weddings, big celebrations, big party and to serve a cake nobody will ever forget. It’s 4 layers and 26cm diameter (which can be flexible if you need a specific cake.

If you are still not sure let’s break it down a bit:
Birthday party → cake is the highlight, so go small/medium
Office or work event → people take smaller slices, medium is often enough, as you don’t want to run out. Only go bigger if more than 15 people are expected.
Dinner or casual gathering → cake is dessert, smaller/medium works
Surprise / last-minute celebration → bento cake.
Wedding/catering: Large or extra lagrange
Berlin reality: people love to switch things up
There is nothing in berlin that people love more then a potluck, then you can bring a small size ;)
What about vegan cakes?
You don’t need to “adjust” portion sizes just because it’s vegan, our cakes are juicy, creamy, rich and you wouldn’t know they are vegan unless someone told you. WE PROMISE YOU non-vegans won’t know the difference.
Ordering at the last minute?
If you’re ordering a cake the same day in Berlin, you don’t need to worry, we can make any cake in 3 hours. For gluten free cake we have a carrot cake always available. You can also choose ready to go birthday cake, no customisation needed ;) Happy cake planning 💖
